Introduction to Misato Town

田ノ原

Misato Town lies next to the biggest river in the Chugoku region of Japan, Gonokawa River, neighboring World Heritage Site, Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine, and Mt. Sanbe. From Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine to Onomichi City of Hiroshima Prefecture, silver was carried passing Misato Town.

In Misato Town, historic sites remain as it was in the past. Gonokawa River comes from Asayama Mountain of Hiroshima Prefecture and passes through Misato Town being the biggest river in Chugoku Region.

In Misato Town, colorful bridges are built to connect two banks. You can enjoy driving or cycling in the riverside looking at the reflection of cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves.

The prosperity of Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine was greatly related to the surrounding area.     When the temperature difference between morning and afternoon becomes large, the mist rises from the early morning Gonokawa River and mountains, creating a wonderful scenery.

  • 齋藤茂吉鴨山記念館アイコン用 Saito Mokichi Kamoyama Memorial Hall [Learn about Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, a poet in Manyoshu]
    It is said that Mt. Kamo of Misato Town is the place where Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, a poet of Manyoshu, died.
    A memorial hall was built in Yugakai, at the foot of Mt. Kamo, to praise the achievements of Dr. Mokichi Saito who declared this theory.
    They have research materials and a lot of waka poems. Why don't you indulge yourself in a romantic mood while visiting a monument erected in Yugakai as well?
